The 3-TC6Am modification incorporates an amine functionality at the 3' terminus of an oligonucleotide. This free amine can be used as a reactive handle, for example, with succinimidyl esters. The amine is conjugated via a ten atom linker to a modified thymidine which may participate in hybridization. The 3-TC6Am modification also introduces a 3' phosphate which prevents extension of the oligonucleotide by DNA polymerase
