Monkeypox Virus and Orthopoxvirus ValuPanel™ Reagents are separately delivered probes and primers for PCR detection of the monkeypox virus and non-variola Orthopoxvirus species.
The disease mpox (formerly known as monkeypox) is caused by the monkeypox virus, a double-stranded DNA virus that belongs to the Orthopoxvirus genus in the family Poxviridae. The Orthopoxvirus genus also includes the cowpox, variola (which causes smallpox) and vaccinia viruses (used in the smallpox vaccine). Mpox is endemic in central and western Africa, but in 2022-2023 a global outbreak marked the first widespread transmission outside of Africa.
