The 5-ATTO 590 modification incorporates an ATTO™ 590 dye (ATTO-TEC GmbH) at the 5' terminus of an oligonucleotide. With strong absorption and high fluorescence quantum yield, ATTO 590 can be used in a wide array of applications, including but not limited to single molecule detection, high-resolution microscopy, flow cytometry (FACS), and fluorescence in-situ hybridization (FISH). ATTO 590 belongs to the class of rhodamine dyes and can be used as a substitute for Alexa Fluor® 594; particularly where enhanced photostability is desired. ATTO 590 fluoresces in the orange region of the visible spectrum and its fluorescence can be effectively quenched by BHQ®-2 dye.
